We are talking about paintings that tried to grab some of the fantastic success of the Potter, but failed 💁♀️
The overcrowded Manchester-London train carriage and J.K. Rowling’s unleashed imagination gave rise to the story of a young wizard. A huge fan club all over the world, the enviable success of the Harry Potter books and films is what we have at the moment.
- Many writers and directors risked the same luck, but their fantasy franchises, unfortunately, were much less fortunate. Keep a list of the most successful (and not so) attempts✨
1. “Fantastic Beasts”
We can imagine your surprise: this same franchise is based on the magical world of “Harry Potter”! However, these two cycles turned out to be different from each other.
Where did we get this? Looked box office receipts… If “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” managed to surprise fans and pay off at the box office, then the release of “The Crimes of Grindelwald” was a commercial disaster. And due to the coronavirus epidemic, the continuation of the franchise has been postponed indefinitely.
2. “The Maze Runner”
Many may be confused as to why this trilogy made the list. Films have collected a good box office, consider the adaptation of the books of the same name was successful. But in 2014, the film’s success was overshadowed by The Hunger Games. The Maze Runner premiered at the same time as the finale of the more anticipated Mockingjay story. And because the first, that the second part passed almost unnoticed for the viewer.
Whether you remember it or not, when the film adaptation of the teenage dystopia was announced, the audience triumphed and languished in anticipation. The franchise even got the budding Shailene Woodley in the lead role.
But unlike “The Maze Runner”, the film adaptation of these books was severely criticized, and the third part collected disastrously little at the box office. “Divergent 4” was supposed to be released in 2017, but the actors simply refused to star in the sequel.
4. “Percy Jackson”
This franchise most of all resemble “Harry Potter”, only the plot is based on ancient Greek myths with a pantheon of gods. In “The Thief of Lightning” and “Sea of Monsters” the “path of the hero ” is clearly traced: the journey of the Chosen One from point A to point B. And also Percy’s team is him, his best friend, and red-haired girl-genius. Doesn’t it look like anything?
In addition, Percy fights good and evil while looking for his special parents. Despite all the similarities with “Harry Potter”, the success and popularity bypassed the picture. Probably, the viewers needed one Boy who survived.
5. “Ender’s Game”
The creators moved away from the popular fantasy genre and filmed science fiction on the topic of space adventure. The story has potential: the actors played well, and the visual effects amazed the audience. Nevertheless, for fans of sci-fi in 2013, the story of the protagonist seemed hackneyed to many: the audience was not satisfied with another Chosen One.
A magical universe in which humans can raise dragons? We seem to have heard about such a cartoon. But there is also a picture, an adaptation of the books of the same name. The film was overtaken by a common mistake of directors and screenwriters – mismatching the source material. Also “Eragon” has been criticized for its insipid and tasteless approach to portraying the fantasy world, which could have turned out much more magical.
7. “The Seventh Son”
The painting is based on the book The Chronicles of Wardstone. It seemed to the demanding audience of the fantasy world that this tape did not bring anything new to the cinema. The complex and entertaining plot did not save, the story of the main character, the seventh son of his father, who was also the seventh son, did not help. For some reason, people just didn’t want to go to fantasy movies. Maybe you are fed up with Game of Thrones?
8. “I am the Fourth”
The adventures of aliens in the ordinary world passed by the audience’s attention and by the box office – in all respects. Even Alex Pettifer in the title role and the story about “the guy without a past” could not win the audience.
Despite the severity of critics and some viewers, these film franchises have enough fans of their own. And even if fantasy did not gain popularity, comparable to the legendary “Harry Potter”, but the paintings have their own history and their own atmosphere. So choose any and dive into the fantasy world! ✨
