Summer is the time for picnics in parks and family trips out of town for barbecues. At the same time, we rarely think about whether all the products are safe to take with us into the fresh air. But in fact, some popular foods can cause a lot of inconvenience, harm your health and ruin your vacation. We tell you which products are best left at home.

Mayonnaise (and any snacks with it)
Leaving mayonnaise-based foods in the sun will spoil them very quickly and can cause serious food poisoning. “Any food seasoned with mayonnaise should be avoided during a picnic. Exposure to high temperatures can cause such foods to spoil and cause stomach upset,” dietician Natalie Komova told Express.co.uk.
Dairy
Soft cheeses, milk, cottage cheese and butter also tend to spoil quickly in the sun. “They [dairy products] may not be too dangerous, but you may still regret your decision to eat them [at a picnic],” says chef Eddie MacDonald.
Rice
Seemingly safe, rice may actually contain Bacillus Cereus spores (which thrive when heated). They release a toxin that causes poisoning. If you need a side dish for shashlik, it is better to replace rice with couscous or vegetables.
Wine
Sometimes on a hot day you just want to drink a glass of cool sparkling wine. However, firstly, sunlight and high temperatures increase alcohol intoxication, which is known to lead to intoxication, headaches and other unpleasant consequences. Secondly, the taste of wine simply deteriorates in the heat. “The heat will increase the tannin content and make the taste of the wine bitter and not very pleasant,” explains MacDonald

The best foods for a hot picnic are those that have little water content. “One of the best outdoor food ideas is dried foods,” McDonald advises. Dried fruits, jerky, vegetable chips — all these snacks won’t spoil in the sun and won’t interfere with your rest. Popcorn is also a great option, which can be either a sweet or salty snack.
